This quintessential dish features tapioca pearls cooked into a savory pilaf that includes chili fried potatoes, ginger, peanuts, and a touch of Thai green chilies for a light kick of spice. We serve it with a side of chaat yogurt and it’s delicious and gluten-free, and vegan if you ditch the yogurt. But it does contain nuts. Get in here since it’s available this week only!

Over the last several weeks, Minnesota has showed us what it looks like to defend democracy and civil liberties. When news makes me physically ill, I turn to stores of the Minneapolis communities united, showing up for their neighbors, in the streets in the bitter cold. Simultaneously peaceful and vocal and courageous. As a native Minnesotan, I never doubted the strength of their resistance!

Minneapolis restaurants will strike on Friday, January 30th in protest of ICE’s violent, repressive, deadly presence in their city. Some restaurants will close here and nationwide. Shutting down for a day is not an option for us at this time, but we join these restaurants in solidarity in an event organized by @spicewaala . It’s extra fitting to be part of this on our 7 year anniversary! We will offer Bombay Masala Sandwiches as a special and use half the sales to purchase gift cards at Minneapolis restaurants, providing a revenue source while they close.

One of the unique dishes that absolutely blew my mind as I married into a Maharashtrian family was Poha! This dish is a staple of home cooking for so many, but I’d never seen it in the US. This week our longest working team member @therealaurryl celebrated SIX years at Lassi & Spice!! When we started this entrepreneurial journey, we never imagined that we’d have folks stick around to see us through so many times, good and bad. Aurryl joined in 2019, just a few months before the Covid pandemic hit and has shepherded our business through so many evolutions. She is always the enthusiastic adapter to any changes we put into place and lends her cooking, tech-support, and people management skills every day. We don’t know what we would be without her and we’re thrilled she’s still along for the ride!
